Indian Spiced Beef and Peas (Keema Matar)
Milk Street Tuesday Nights
A lot of Indian dishes require long cooking, lots of different spices, and building flavor step by step. This one does not, making it a great weeknight meal, and a new-to-me way to use ground beef.
This has a tomato base, but doesn't feel too tomato-y. It definitely doesn't feel like eating pasta sauce! And the only spice mix you need is garam masala, which I have definitely been able to find at a regular American grocery store. We made our own (from the Dishoom cookbook, here: https://youtu.be/7sgZc1tcRK8) but if you can't find the mixed spices, you probably won't find all the ingredients in that recipe either.
We served this with some flat bread we made (video coming next week), but I think it would also be great with plain white (basmati if you have it) rice.
