We love a BLT in the summer, when tomatoes are in season and super juicy. We made this dip in the middle of winter, hoping it would still turn out...and we were well rewarded!

[00:09]: we're gonna make what we hope is a
[00:11]: really good party recipe and we haven't
[00:15]: tried it before so we're keeping our
[00:19]: fingers crossed that we love it but it's
[00:20]: called BLT dip and this is out of deep
[00:24]: run roots maybe and Howard's cookbook we
[00:27]: love BLTs it's not tomato season so
[00:31]: we're doing the best we can with that
[00:32]: but bacon tomatoes lettuce in a Green
[00:38]: Goddess dressing
[00:39]: sounds good we'll see I have all of my
[00:45]: ingredients set up here for making the
[00:47]: green goddess dressing which you make
[00:49]: first and can sit in the refrigerator
[00:50]: until you're ready for it
[00:52]: so I'm just gonna get started I have
[00:56]: some sour cream and I'm gonna just use
[01:00]: this same measuring plunge II measuring
[01:04]: cup thing to measure out my my
[01:10]: mayonnaise
[01:28]: pretty good put this in here and really
[01:36]: we just drop everything in here and wear
[01:39]: it up and it's all done so most of the
[01:42]: hard work is done cuz I've measured it
[01:44]: all out I have some fresh tarragon pick
[01:50]: the leaves off of the biggest stems and
[01:53]: a sliced clove of garlic I have quite a
[02:03]: bit of basil it's actually less than it
[02:07]: looks like because I've packed it in to
[02:09]: measure it it just Sunna fluffs up I
[02:13]: have some anchovy fillets here they did
[02:16]: not stay filleted so I just kind of
[02:19]: guessed we're just gonna put these in
[02:22]: there you could also use anchovy paste
[02:24]: which is what this is more like so it'll
[02:27]: be fine
[02:29]: might be a bit much but we like Angelo
[02:32]: be so got some lemon juice
[02:45]: and all I need is some sugar some salt
[02:50]: and I think some pepper no pepper just
[02:55]: sugar and salt and we just wore this up
[03:16]: until it is green and blended smooth so
[03:21]: that's coming out but that's what I'm
[03:23]: gonna do now I have to turn it on first
[03:38]: I'm gonna call that gun and I'm just
[03:40]: gonna put this into a container and put
[03:44]: it in the refrigerator until we're ready
[03:45]: for it our next step for the BLT dip is
[03:49]: to get the tomatoes ready
[03:52]: it calls for three medium tomatoes I've
[03:54]: got five because they're smaller than
[03:57]: medium I call these not they're not like
[04:00]: cherry tomato size but they're not
[04:02]: they're certainly not large and I would
[04:04]: call them small so going to small dice
[04:08]: these and just take out the core and put
[04:14]: them in this bowl and when I'm done will
[04:17]: I'll let you know what we do with them
[04:45]: so I've small viced kind of my Tomatoes
[04:49]: and this is what gives me a little bit
[04:51]: of hope that it might be okay even
[04:54]: though we're out of tomatoes season I'm
[04:56]: going to add some salt and some sugar
[05:08]: mix that up and then we're gonna let
[05:17]: this drain in the colander and one
[05:20]: second I'm going to pour this into my
[05:22]: sieve here and then just set it in this
[05:24]: bowl be right back
[05:26]: now we're going to leave this for 30
[05:30]: minutes this will help get rid of some
[05:32]: of the the extra juices and concentrate
[05:35]: the flavor so hopefully it'll be good
[05:38]: even though it's not tomato season so I
[05:42]: have my bacon ready I like to bake my
[05:46]: bacon in the oven and it's supposed to
[05:47]: be crispy and then so I'm going to
[05:50]: crumble that up so we'll be ready for
[05:52]: the next step and we need to get our
[05:54]: lettuce for the BLT dip ready next so be
[05:58]: right back okay so the only thing really
[06:02]: left for us to do for this field he did
[06:07]: besides putting it all together is to
[06:09]: get our romaine stems our lettuce ready
[06:13]: so she says about half of a head I've
[06:16]: washed ahead of a heart of romaine so
[06:20]: I've washed the whole head and I'll just
[06:23]: put it in the refrigerator wrap in paper
[06:26]: towels I have some laid out here for
[06:28]: everything oh sorry
[06:31]: now the weird thing is we only use the
[06:34]: stems for this and she says to cut off
[06:35]: all but like a quarter of an inch that's
[06:39]: probably a little more than that
[06:40]: whatever and that's this part the stem
[06:46]: part is what we're going to use for this
[06:48]: dip so I'm going to do that or
[06:55]: some of it and then we'll slice it up so
[06:60]: you don't use the real leafy part just
[07:04]: the stem part that's interesting so I've
[07:10]: got a few over here now and we're going
[07:13]: to cut these into 1/3 inch slices all
[07:34]: right and we need about a cup of that so
[07:38]: that's how I'm gonna gauge how much I
[07:40]: use how much I cut up I know about what
[07:43]: a cup is in this bowl so I'm not gonna
[07:46]: really measure it but yeah that's about
[07:49]: a cup we're gonna go with that and I'm
[07:53]: gonna rack everything else up in paper
[07:54]: towels put it in plastic bag in the
[07:56]: refrigerator for salad oh we can save
[07:59]: some of these smaller ones for garnish
[08:03]: which I think I wanted to do keep those
[08:05]: out and that's way back to put it all
[08:11]: together when we're ready so we're ready
[08:14]: to put together this BLT dip my tomatoes
[08:18]: have been draining for way more than
[08:22]: half an hour probably at least an hour
[08:24]: because I had other things that I was
[08:25]: doing today but we're going to mix this
[08:28]: with let's see some pepper the rest of
[08:41]: the salt which is you know one of those
[08:43]: things you have to figure out sometimes
[08:45]: in this book so we have the romaine
[08:51]: stems we've saved a little bit of the
[08:53]: romaine and some green onions for
[08:56]: garnish but we're going to put most of
[08:59]: those in here
[09:05]: most of our green onions that are just
[09:10]: the green part sliced very thinly I did
[09:14]: without showing you guys and then all of
[09:21]: this green goddess dressing pretty shirt
[09:25]: I love it
[09:26]: so we've just had this hanging out in
[09:28]: the refrigerator so we're just gonna mix
[09:31]: it all right there we go
[09:45]: okay just gonna mix all of this up and
[09:48]: it's kind of wet because the tomatoes
[09:50]: are kind of wet and the Green Goddess is
[09:52]: kind of wet but that's what her looks
[09:54]: like in the book so I'm not too
[09:57]: concerned about that and then here's me
[10:03]: hoping that it all fits in the bowl so
[10:05]: the bowl that she has it in is something
[10:07]: like this maybe a little bit taller but
[10:09]: thinner so I'm gonna put my fits in here
[10:13]: because we still have to put the bacon
[10:16]: on top of it okay put everything so now
[10:42]: I'm going to I have my bacon it was
[10:45]: cooked crispy I did not crumble it but I
[10:47]: am going to just run my knife through it
[10:50]: a little bit to crumble it up and see it
[10:56]: tumbles pretty nicely and we're just
[11:02]: gonna put all of this on top here so
[11:07]: I've got all that on there and then I'm
[11:09]: just gonna top it with some of the
[11:12]: romaine and green onions that I were
[11:15]: served for garnish little bit
[11:22]: overflowing but it looks delicious and
[11:26]: I'm gonna make some just some cheese
[11:29]: suggest serving it with white bread
[11:31]: toast triangles so that's what I'm gonna
[11:34]: do for serving and we'll let you know
[11:37]: how it turned out

[12:08]: was 100% a hit with my kids I think my
[12:14]: son just ate it by the spoonful they ate
[12:17]: it with the with the toast points they
[12:19]: ate the leftover the bits of lettuce
[12:22]: they ate it with that they loved it so I
[12:27]: highly recommend it does it require too
[12:31]: much effort as long as you have a
[12:32]: blender you can make the dressing
[12:34]: everything else is just sort of making
[12:36]: bacon slicing stuff up making some toast
[12:39]: all goes really well together
[12:42]: it was delicious just as it was so
[12:46]: highly recommended if you have a party
[12:50]: or if you just want to have a little bit
[12:53]: of a snack instead of you know instead
[12:57]: of a BLT itself this is this is really
[13:02]: great even without it being tomato
[13:04]: season
[13:05]: even without the best tomatoes this was
[13:07]: a great recipe and something that I'm
[13:10]: sure I will be making again so I hope
